Real Estate Contract

Someone told me that it is illegal to assign a real estate contract in California. I can kind of see the logic whereby if someone is in the middle of escrow they don't want to have the opposing party switched on them. Does anyone know the answer? Is there any way around the law?

There used to be a special anti-gang force in SF (similar to the Riders) but they got in a little bit of trouble -- beating up suspects or something, I guess. I think SF figures the short fat guys are safer.

Dude -- seeking legal advice on the boards is some risky shit. You really want to rely on people who you know only by their internet nicknames, political biases, and bizarre sexual proclivities?

You think the current system of picking lawyers based on where they went to college is any better?

I thought there might be a simple answer to this question. Kind of like is California a community property state. Or how do tenants get their damage deposit back. You hever know. This questions is not for a client but for a friend. The correct answer is not life or death, I just really wanted to know.
