Looked at CCT's privacy statement. Good to know they're looking out for me here.

I had no idea that penile-related products advertized so heavily in the Contra Costa Times! Good thing this time I signed up as "Atticus Grinch."

When I linked it, it was a Yahoo news link with no reg required. Sorry. FWIW, you can always use BugMeNot, but we both know you're right in the penile implant target demographic.

Not sure if you're looking for scuttlebutt because you're (a) management, trying to see if any of the associates squeal, (b) a reporter looking for a lead, or (c) looking for employment there. For the moment, I'll assume "c" but hedge my bets that you may be "a"** or "b" and just say that while I do not know any of the attorneys in the SV office, I know some who are or were at other offices and from what they tell me, I would not work there. I like my law license too much.
** disclaimer - never have, never will work at Greenberg Traurig, so if you're management, you can't fire me. ha ha.

Dumb lawyer update
A Silicon Valley lawyer allegedly paid a 16-year-old girl hundreds of dollars for sex and propositioned her 17-year-old friend with graphic e-mails, according to court records.
Jason D. Borrevik, 32, of Sunnyvale, had sex at least three times with the 16-year-old San Francisco Bay area girl he met on the Internet, according to an affidavit filed Tuesday in Santa Clara County Superior Court. The girl told police he paid her between $140 and $200 for each encounter.
Borrevik, an attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, one of Silicon Valley's most prestigious law firms, was arrested last month on charges of having sex with a minor. He's married and has an infant son.
Borrevik allegedly e-mailed the 17-year-old girl graphic photographs to entice her, but instead of meeting with him, she reported the incident to Milpitas police in August.
In a sting operation, a Palo Alto police detective pretended to be the older girl during an online chat with Borrevik, who allegedly admitted to having sex with the 16-year-old.
A clerk at the Palo Alto Townhouse, where Borrevik allegedly met with the 16-year-old at least once, said Borrevik had rented a room there more than 40 times in the past four years and had arrived with an "underage-looking" girl in the weeks before his arrest, according to the police affidavit.
full story here So either this guy has a thing for the young girls, or has no concept of age appropriate behavior.

Brobeck and Citibank Settle
The Firm Formerly Known as Brobeck and Citibank have put down the fisticuffs (I rather fancy the image of the Brobeck partners and head financiers boxing it out in the boxing uniforms of the 1920s or so) and http://www.nylawyer.com/news/04/10/1...ir differences.
Citibank accepted $2.85M in cash on their claim of about $8M they were owed by Brobeck. That's not actually a bad payout for bankruptcy, considering most bankruptcy creditors barely get 10 cents to the dollar.

O'Reilly, Collins & Danko was at it again, with another one of their creepy ads in the trades celebrating a verdict/settlement arising from an aeronautical death case.
Reasonable people can disagree as to the tastefulness of using human tragedy as a marketing device. Spelling it "helicoptor" was a nice touch, though. ALL WEEK.

Yeah, those ads are seriously foul. They are good at what they do, but jesus, when your stock and trade depends on the misfortune of others, it might be a good idea to tone that marketing shit down a little. At least other firms try to spin it as helping families or righting injustices or something. Christ, not "That guy died, we made tons of money!"

Do they still show the little plane heading for the ground in their ads? That's enormously sick -- they started doing that when they represented the estate (I think) of the little girl who died trying to fly cross-country.
It'd be sort of like Johnnie Cochran running ads with a bloody knife in a gloved fist.

Pho
So the Chronic had an article about all the good Pho places in SF. Most of them on Larkin.
Are there any that are closer to say...the financial district or Market?

The bestest Vietnamese place is on 6th and Market, but that's probably a haul also. Tu Lan.
There are a bunch of good Vietnamese places in Chinatown, which is an easy walk from parts of the financial district..... I can't remember the names but I'll think of them...
I almost never order Pho, so places I like may not be your bowl of soup, as it were.

There's a place near the Transamerica that wasn't bad, but I never order the Pho. There was a soup called chicken vermicelli that was the only thing I ever ordered. It comes with bean sprouts, basil and a lime wedge. It was called Sai's and was always packed. Other than that, I've been all over the neighborhood and really haven't seen much outside the tenderloin. And I'm just not wanting to experiment and get food poisoning or whatever.
6th and Market is kind of a haul, but then again that never stopped my from going to Nordstroms.

tulan's pho is pretty good--but their rice dishes are very good. (esp. (1) beef cubes and (2) combo eggroll with chicken rice bown) fried rice is good there too. (this coming from an Asian) its hard to get disappointed there.

What's the skinny on Howard Rice?
I'm in another state looking to possibly work at Howard Rice in the future. Their litigation practice seems strong and the people I've met there have been very nice. What I'm missing though is the gossipy/reputational stuff. Many thanks!
