Yes, Kokkari is overpriced, but I believe money was not the issue. Speaking of overpriced, there's the Boulevard which gets all the good reviews.

I personally don't think Kokkari is particularly good. I don't like to go there even if I'm not paying for it.
In contrast, I really like Boulevard, and would even go there on my own dime (though that's not usually how).
Ah, well. Different strokes yadda yadda ya.

Yeah, you're right. It's not the best Greek food I've had, but I wasn't paying. The quality of the food was good but the spicing could be jacked up a bit more. That said, there are worse places to go in this city (e.g. Postrio).
And I haven't really seen much in the way of ethnic (outside of Chinese, or Italian)

Concur. Also, with regard to Tadich's, I regard that place as being only one step above the places on Fisherman's Wharf where they'll sell you the Boston clam chowder in the hollowed-out sourdough loaf.

Also concur. And Danko is completely overpriced.
For French-Viet, Slanted Door (100 Brennan). If you're near Sausalito, Sushi-Ran. If you're daring, Roxanne's in Larchmont.

Danko is outright cheap if you are used to paying NYC prices.
Slanted Door was quite good. I hear they're moving. Again.
I'm a big fan of Sushi Groove South.
Chapeau is an out of the way fantastic spot - but we're getting off the client tab train a bit.

You got me - my affection for taditch is more about sentiment than quality of food.

Watch out for the tourists there. They don't know how to handle their wine, and make a mess.

Anyone been to Jeanty at Jack's? I'm looking for a place to go this weekend.

They also tend to like their guests pickled.

Yes. It's very good. Avoid the cassoulet, not because it doesn't taste wonderful but because it violates the Madden Rule (never eat more than you can lift).

Been there for lunch. Food is very good, though a bit heavy for my tastes. Atmosphere can best be described as splendid.

I think that's probably true for most of the patrons.

So what exactly is the attraction? That it's old?
I was given a recommendation to go there by a long time SFer but have put it off since his last rec (Izzy's) was crap.

Restaurants
Tadich's has a great old time atmosphere and waiters who, from all appearances, have worked there since it opened. The food is not inventive but the quality of the fish is good. If you stick to simple preparations you can have a very good meal.
I have been to Jeanty at Jack's a few times and definitely liked it and it has nice atmosphere.
I am not sure why one poster knocked Postrio; I was there a few months ago and had a truly amazing meal (adimittedly the bill was dazzling also).
