Do you have any on the 11th Amendment?

Perhaps she was a little bit upset. Or is that more compassionate conservatism? Clearly you don't know anyone down there.
I meant the part about sitting on its hands. As for your subsequent post, interesting. I didn't think when it was going on that Chertoff seemed as on top of it as he should have, and I'll be interested to see more (non-agendaed) information as it comes out.

As for the last bit, in fact I do, quite a lot. And I expect my leaders to care as well (and I think they all do), but I don't expect them to fall apart when they're supposed to be strong.

No, but the fact that you got Hank to actually go and read Griswold is highly amusing in its own way.

* I've already stated that I think Blanco, Nagin, et al at the local level contributed to the problems, don't really care about their political fortunes, am perfectly happy to see their governance end tomorrow, and offered to Penske to have them shot. Curiously, this doesn't appear to be enough.

Gattigap
Fair enough, but I was wondering why he was exclusively focussing on the President.

I can't speak for Penske, of course, but I'm pretty sure most people agree there is some blame to go to a lot of quarters for all of this. But so far, only one quarter has acknowledged that they should even show up on the radar screen.

Talk is cheap. Bush's "I'm responsible" is meaningless talk -- the fact is he was responsible and is responsible. The only question is whether he will ever be held responsible. Given the way everyone seems to be tripping all over themselves to suck his dick for just saying the magic words, it's not looking particularly likely.

Jez.

I have occasionally been accused of excess subtlety, and here it raises its ugly head again.

Between this, and having to tell SS that "no means NO," it's becoming clear to me that I'll simply have to be more direct in the future.

Nagin, Blanco embolden our enemies.

Linky
  • Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have been following closely the way the United States government has been handling Hurricane Katrina, and drawing strategic conclusions from it.

In remarks that appeared on Ansar-e Hezbollah website on Sunday, a top official of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said the devastating hurricane had exposed America’s vulnerabilities.

“The mismanagement and the mishandling of the acute psychological problems brought about by Hurricane Katrina clearly showed that others can, at any given time, create a devastated war-zone in any part of the U.S.”, Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri, the official spokesman of the IRGC, said.

“If the U.S. attacks Iran, each of America’s states will face a crisis the size of Katrina”, he said, referring to the massive hurricane which hit the southern coast of the United States. “The smallest mistake by America in this regard will result in every single state in that country turning into a disaster zone”.

“How could the White House, which is impotent in the face of a storm and a natural disaster, enter a military conflict with the powerful Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly with the precious experience that we gained in the eight-year war with Iraq?” he said.

Jazayeri said the hurricane havoc showed that “contrary to public perception, the strength of America’s leadership is like a balloon, which can easily burst”.

Fan-fucking-tastic. Nagin, you piece of crap, your inability to get your people out of the path of the hurricane has emboldened our enemies. Now they think they can create chaos in our homeland, and it's your fucking fault. Get in a bus and drive, dammit.

Yawn. I think other cities would be more difficult to flood. How much water do they have, and how do they propose getting it over here? More importantly, is water now a WMD?

Too true. I've been admitting responsibility for all sort of fuck ups for years. Its actually a great way to look like you've got backbone and make people believe you're a stand up guy. Shit, I've taken responsibility for stuff I didn't even do to make myself look like someone who was trying extra hard, but just fucked up in the process.

Nobody ever accuses you of not giving a shit when you accept responsibility.

That said, I'm not the president of anything, and Bush's late mea culpa is a day late and a dime short. Its also pathetic because the guy running the country shouldn't be using transparant slacker tricks. He's convincing me more and more that he really doesn't give a shit about what he's doing and is bored.

In a sense, Bush is like us. He's a moderately bright guy who doesn't want to do the work, finds it dull, but likes the money (in his case, power) it brings. President Lawtalker.

We. Are. Fucked.

ETA: Shit, he even bites off more than he can chew and tries things he knows are doomed just to see if he can pull them off. (See: SS Reform, Iraq). He's exactly like me - I'll argue crazy shit to a judge just to ssee if I can put a Spruce Goose argument in the air. Holy lord... I think I just figured out W. Worse, I think I "feel" the son of a bitch...

Has there been any flooding of major cities on West wing? What did Bartlett do, and in what time frame?
