See, I knew you missed me. Sorry, I haven't posted much lately, but I don't have much access to the computer during the day and I'm generally too exhausted to spend much time on the board in the evening, but I do check it out now and again, but I've "lurked" more than anything else of late.

Porn, thongs, Springer's possible senate run, the two-headed phoenix arising from the ashes of Arter, it's all good, and I'll try to contribute where and when I can.

Besides, being an urban legend (in my own mind), like the candyman, all you have to do is look in a mirror, say my name three times, and. . .

don't forget more excuses to make fun of cincinatti. although mr. violins has still yet to explain what he was doing reading the washington times. maybe he is a closet right wing wacko

still, with all of those subjects, not to mention giant inflatable rats, i'd expect that this board would be busier. maybe if jerry springer actually runs or jones day takes over a few more law firms it would bring in more posters.

Hey, Hey, Hey! Don't get your panties in a bunch! Not even the thong ones. I picked it up off the Drudge Report. I don't know the first thing about the Washington Times. Sheesh. I'm just trying to keep the conversation goign around here. I don't know how to attract more socks to this board. If you got idea, please feel free to share. I just try to post items that are Ohio related that are newsworthy.

i'm sorry, mr. violins. you are doing a very good job of finding and posting newsworthy stories about ohio. it is not your fault that more posters have not shown up here to discuss the great topics for discussion that we have.

but as for my ability to attract new socks to this bored, i think that my record on the old detroit bored speaks for itself. but you'd have to rethink your opposition to spanking naughty diplomats who misbehave on the message boards

The Glove doesn't fit

Law gives inmates chance at DNA test

Columbus - Gov. Bob Taft yesterday signed into law a bill that allows inmates convicted of felonies a second chance to prove their innocence by asking for a DNA test.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. David Goodman, a Bexley Republican, allows prisoners with at least one year left on their sentences to apply for the testing.

Killworth merges with Dinsmore

Dinsmore and Shohl LLP has boosted its intellectual property and patent law practice by merging with the Dayton law firm of Killworth, Gottman, Hagan & Schaeff LLP.

The merger, which will be effective Aug. 14, will give the combined firm one of the largest intellectual property departments in the region. Killworth, Gottman will give up its name and become part of Dinsmore and Shohl.

What? A law firm is actually growing, and not going the way of the dinosaur? Who'd a thunk it?

Oh wait, its a merger with an IP practice. No wonder.

Taft opening Dayton office

Well-known law firm opening Dayton office

Firm to bring five or six lawyers this year

One of southern Ohio's largest law firms is opening an office in Dayton.

Cincinnati-based Taft, Stettinius & Hollister -- a 185-lawyer firm that was co-founded by the grandfather of Gov. Bob Taft, Robert Taft -- is launching its fourth office in Ohio.

The firm is partnering with a well-known Dayton lawyer in opening the local office.

Hugh Wall III left Coolidge Wall, Womsley & Lombard in Dayton to open the new branch as partner in charge at the beginning of this month.

Run Maurice, Run!

Clarett pleads his case

Columbus- Maurice Clarett is optimistic he'll be cleared to rejoin his Ohio State teammates at practice this week after meeting yesterday with OSU Athletic Director Andy Geiger and NCAA investigators.

Clarett and his entourage, including his mother, two attorneys and NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown, spent nearly four hours at St. John Arena in what Geiger said was "part of the process" of sorting out the sophomore tailback's eligibility.

Cleveland Area School District Report Cards

Somewhere in an ideal fantasy world, other Ohio lawyers are checking out this board. Thus, I continue to post on issues I think are interesting and somewhat relevant. Today, I focus on neighborhood school districts. Well, the Plain Dealer writes about it. At times, on the old Board, relocating attorneys looked for information like this.

Report cards mix good, bad news

The most complex analysis of public school districts to date, released yesterday by the state, held good news for Cleveland and Lorain.

I assume that on the State web page, you can access the report card for all Ohio School Districts

New York of the Midwest

Is how Toledo, Ohio is known! To live up to its namesake, the Glass City is copying The Big Apple with a smoking ban of its own. People are not happy. [are they Toledoans? Toledites? Toledoists? whatever]

Day 1 of citywide prohibition leaves area bowlers, bar owners fuming

Smoking ban has patrons fired up

J.R. Jones and Clarence Born are regulars at The Rooster Inn in East Toledo, and as such are used to drinking and smoking at the same time - inside.

But yesterday, if they wanted to smoke, they had to leave their drinks unattended and step outside. They aren’t happy.

A half-smoked cigarette lies on a table until a bowler at Twin Oaks Lanes returns to go outside and relight it. The alley said the ban has caused it to lose business already.

"I have a message for the city council members, and it’s not a nice one," Mr. Jones said before using expletives to describe his feelings toward the elected officials.

Toledo restaurant, bar, and bowling alley owners and patrons had some choice words for city leaders who enacted the city-wide smoking ban that went into effect at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

Charter Skoolz not so gud

State gives charter schools poor marks

Often billed as cradles of innovative reform, most Ohio charter schools got dismal marks on the state report cards.

Eighty-eight of the privately run, publicly funded schools have existed long enough to be included in this year's round of report cards.

This was the first year charter schools got report cards, which gives them an academic label based on test scores, attendance and graduation rates.

Had they been children, the schools might have gotten a spanking.

Proposal for New Thread Posting Convention: Let Individual Subjects Get Their Own Threads.

I am active on several community bulletin boards that use a discussion forum program similar to this one (pHp, etc) and I think that the functionality of this Ohio board could be greatly enhanced. It is far more functional than Infirmation's antiquated Greedy Associates board, but at the same time I don't think we are getting the most out of this forum.

Maybe this is unwelcome, but I've decided to take it upon myself to campaign for this. Could we please start posting new topics in their own individual threads? It would make discussion much more accessible.

For example, the Chicago forum might have 50 individual threads like:

Latham & Watkins

Job openings in Chicago

Restaurants

Layoff Rumor at Firm X

Altheimer disintegrates.

Moving to Chicago--Chicago Housing

Illinois Bar Exam

Bonuses at Sidley

etc.

A forum like the Chicago forum would probably get 15 new threads per month. This system would be far more functional than the current system where we have 270 posts covering a number of topics in a single thread.

Are U Ready For Some Football?

Well, not this kind.

Clarett wants to take troubles to NFL

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)— Maurice Clarett and his mother are considering suing the NFL for a chance to enter the league a year early, the family's attorney said Thursday.
That's one of several options for the suspended Ohio State tailback, according to Alan C. Milstein, a lawyer in Pennsauken, N.J.

He painted a picture of a contentious relationship between Ohio State officials and Michelle Clarett and her son, the leading rusher for last season's national championship team.

Clarett's mother is "distraught" at the way her son is being treated by Ohio State, Milstein said. He called Clarett "a good kid who has tried to cooperate" with investigators and university officials but is being held accountable for discrepancies in his statements after almost 11 hours of interviews over at least four days.

"We're looking at all the options," Milstein said when asked if the Claretts might sue to allow Maurice to enter the 2004 draft. "It's obviously one of the options."
