Re: Implanting Bill Gates's Micro-chips In Brains For Over 20 Years!

I am in the habit of taking a brisk, 40+ minute walk with our dog in the morning, and I like to walk quickly enough to work up a bit of a sweat. Most weekdays, I then come home and jump right on the Peloton, mostly so that I don't end up taking another shower riding later.

My question for all of you: Is there some other advantage to stacking these activities back-to-back like this, is that less beneficial physiologically, or is it a wash?

Not that I know of. Probably more beneficial.

In running, while some people "break" a "long run" in to two separate pieces, it is almost universally considered better to run the whole thing in one piece to get the heart used to remaining elevated for a sustained period of time.

For example, there are benefits to runs of 5 miles in the morning and 5 in the evening (more miles, time on feet, etc.) but it is generally better just to run 10 miles in one fell swoop but if you don't have the time, you don't have the time.

Plus, you only have to shower once, like you said.

I like that I'm already warmed up when I get on the Peloton, but yesterday our internet was out in the morning, and so I rode in the afternoon, and I put in a much stronger ride.

On the one hand high school football Summer “2 a day” workouts were morning/afternoon,

On the other hand everything about them was stupid.

I say if you can get 2 workouts in do it any way you can.

One 10 mile run is better than two five mile runs

Two 5 mile runs are better than one 5 mile run.

Putting energy into thinking about whether I should run 10 miles or 2 5 milers, at my age, is equivalent to spending hours deciding if I’d rather have sex with Margot Robbie or Scarlett Johansson.

Ideally, you want heart rate to be in the safe zone before max is reached (depends on age) for in excess of 35 straight minutes. Why 35 idk.

Max. That’s cute. You heard about zone 2 running? Well basically that’s all my runs. Yesterday I had to bust ass on my run commute to make my train and my HR hit 141.

You're really just doing a mild brick, like when people train for triathlons. You're probably not going to be as fast on the bike though. When I was training for a 1/2 Ironman (many moons ago), I did bricks all of the time. My times for the second exercise were always slower than when I did them independently.

I do think that doing them back to back is likely more beneficial.

I had always followed the rule that if one can hold a conversation while working out, which Zone 2 cardio allows, one is not getting an adequate workout. Has this been revised?

I'll occasionally break it up if my schedule only allows for brief intervals of exercise. Do 500 calories rowing, then 250 bike or elliptical, or v/v. Sometimes it'll be broken up, sometimes in immediate succession.

YMMV, but doing a full 50-60 minutes on rowing machine feels like most effective workout. Put Bill Maher or Fareed Zakaria on, hit "cardio high" about 25 minutes in, after which one feels no pain, then go thru end of show. Feel wrecked afterward, but in the best way.

Yes. The current mindset is that 80% of your miles should be run at a conversational pace. This encourages more miles I guess.

So far works for me. My resting heart rate is 39.

None of those exercises ever did shit for me. The only ones that work are (1) running and (2) stairs or stairmaster.

Back before I read Sarno and realized that all pain was contrived I would use a Nordic Track ski machine when “injured.” Still do on occasion of very shitty weather. Good workout.

Rowing machines were a great workout but I kept pulling chest muscles, although I suppose with Sarno that wouldn’t be an issue?

I don’t have friends but I do talk to myself when running.
