That's the point that's the OG plane transmission story. Since then, though planes ave turned safe and cleaner than a surgical room because "we are all in this together."

If you think planes are clean, go to Passengershaming.com some time. Planes and gyms, grammar schools and day cares, yes no germs there, that's why no Covid transmissions happen there.

And Phish concerts. Ps the reason sleepy joe is being soft on fighting inflation is because without the massive 401k devaluation, the big quit would’ve been everyone.

Keeping in mind, there was no medical statement that it doesn't make sense to wear a mask in an airport or plane, just that the mandate was no longer in force.

Crazy.

I was out to dinner last night with a bunch of pharma industry people, all but me with serious chem backgrounds. Full masking from the moment anyone got up, the place we chose had large tables where we could be 5-6 feet apart at all times. The person there who had to fly in complaining about his flight and indicating he needed to take extra care. Everyone tested before hand.

These folks understand the situation.

I'm debating whether to a get a second booster. In addition to the vaccines, I've had it twice (Classic and Omicron 1). You getting a second boost?

I'm not adverse to the concept. I just don't know if I need it at this point. Omicron really didn't do much to me, and I think as research continues we might see improved boosts that will be better than what I can get today. Might want to go bareback through the Summer, when transmission tends to be lower.

2) At first vaccines were supposed to be 95% effective in preventing contracting Covid, so I'm not sure what a 2020 study proves.

FWIW, I flew a couple times during Covid (2020 and 2021). Numerous connectors, too.

I didn't get get it either time.

Where I'm pretty sure I got it the first time was a Courthouse filled with morons wearing masks below their noses. Second time I think it was from a family member. One of my parents was just recently diagnosed with it after asking for allergy meds.

I've a cousin who's a pilot. He was careful, as he has to assiduously use PPE and test constantly, but I believe he made it through the whole pandemic so far without getting it.

It's impossible to figure out how this thing transmits, as there are endless exceptions to every rule people think they've found. The only rule that makes sense to me is viral load plays a role. People contracted it like crazy at Mardi Gras, and choirs tended to have huge outbreaks. If you're concerned about getting it, going to concerts or boxing matches, or anywhere people are yelling, probably isn't wise.

Neither troll likely "really" meant it, but shit's definitely gone the wrong way.

What's shocking to me right now is the muted response to the possibility of Roe being overturned. I think it demonstrates an exhaustion among the public.

Rerun the history:

2008 - Insane financial crisis
2009 - Extreme polarization initiated by right wing after Obama elected
2009-2015 - "Meh" economy/Terrible uptick in inequality
2016 - Orange guy gets elected
2016 - Fake News/National gaslighting
2017-2019 - Trump insanity/Impeachment/More extreme polarization
2020 - Covid
2022 - Putin invades Ukraine

The destruction of bedrock norms seems to have become a norm in itself. I surmise people are simply exhausted. What the fuck happens next?

There's also a feeling, and you can ask anyone this question, that we're in some form of entropy that's going to resolve to the positive, with an emergence of better institutions, or to the negative, with a further degradation into a technically governed but not really governed form of plutocracy/fascist state controlled by monopolies, financiers, and professional politicians doing their bidding. Things are, objectively, fraying a bit.

The more people feel like they are not being heard, demonstrated by things like SCOTUS chucking Roe out the window, the less see the see a need to respect the institutions that govern them. When it gets to a point that govt has no real respect, and can only attempt to keep control by force, you've got a state in name only.

If you think any of this is untrue, think back to Charlie Rangel's statement 20 years ago that the surest way to start a Civil War would be to attempt to have a draft. Imagine Putin nuked something in Europe. Imagine for some reason we had to fight a WWIII in some traditional fashion (yes, I know it wouldn't go that way, but don't fight the hypo). Would Americans allow their kids to be drafted?

I certainly wouldn't. There's no way in hell. And I think about 90% of the country is on the same page with me, for numerous and varied but all valid reasons.

This just isn't true any more. Sure, there were a lot of open questions at the beginning, but now it's pretty well established and studied.

People just don't like the results of those studies, which say that masking and social distancing can be highly effectively. Staying home and reading Boccaccio works.

Same here. If a business asks me to put one on, I will. I'm vaxxed/boosted, and I dutifully wore a mask when I was told to (without complaining). I understand the math/risks.

The point I was trying to make is that if you're not wearing one at a restaurant, but are wearing one on a plane, then you're not being consistent. You're significantly more likely to catch Covid at the restaurant due to the air circulation/renewal in a plane cabin. I don't dispute that wearing a mask on plane further minimizes the likelihood.

I am referring to air cleanliness. Not surface cleanliness. Although I wipe down my area with the wipes they hand out before sitting down.

In my relatively liberal suburb, I'd say maybe 15% of people are masked in grocery stores, CVS, etc. Everyone complied when it was mandated.

I am one of the few people I know who hasn't had it (or hasn't tested positive for it). Entire family had it and I didn't get it. Numerous tests. I assume it's because I am a superhuman.

Same here.

I just got back from a week in Madrid. Masks still required on buses/trains/plains/cabs. Otherwise, fairly similar to here. Maybe 10 percent masking in general; a bit higher for service industry folks.

The US is still requiring a negative test within 24 hours of your flight back, no home tests allowed (excepting the ones where you are watched via Zoom). A pain in the ass, but it was nice to know that everyone on the return flight (overwhelmingly unmasked) has just tested negative.

I talked about it with all my doctors before and after the vaccines, after I had had it in March of 2020. Immunity to coronaviruses, whether by infection or vaccine, is temporary. They seemed to be comfortable with saying 90 days. While I still had antibodies from natural infection 11 months later, no one knows whether this would have an effect on a potential infection.

I got the 2d booster the day it was available (April) and I am planning on having to get another in the Fall.

Silly statement. While each time you take it off, your risk is raised, some things, like putting food in your mouth, necessitate taking the mask off, or moving it. I'd put going to the dentist in the same category. Now, of course, you could just do those activities less.
