Ronnie Earle has indicted Democrats and Republicans alike.

What's that old line concerning a grand jury and a ham sandwich?

No, Earle is clearly trying to ride this harpooned whale into bigger office. He's doing exaclty what Delay would have done in his shoes. Live by the sword...

Tom Delay is learning that its hard to cover your own ass when you spend 24 hrs of every day looking for other people’s asses to fuck. People like Rove and Delay spend so much time on offense that they can’t afford even the slightest fuck up. There’s a new crop of these scumbags emerging every year, and every one of them thinks he’ll be the first to be able to fuck everyone without payback. Sooner or later, they all slip somewhere, and the list of enemies swarms in to give them a lube-free screwing. So, you’re right, this is partisan... but it also happens to be perfect justice.

I must take offense. Are you calling DeLay a pig?

I had no idea Mama Cass ever served on a grand jury.

Considering he's held the same position since 1976, he's not doing a very good job of it.

Dissent. Earle seems pretty happy where he is.

Doesn’t matter - now that he’s lost the post, the crowd of people waiting to take him down will keep him down and battle to get it themselves. Tom’s got no allies - just skeletons to sell. Bush doesn’t even help the guy. Delay is the “wet operations” agent who gets left behind to die.

I'll let Earle answer in his own words:

"The thinly veiled personal attacks on me by Mr. DeLay's supporters in this case are no different from those in the cases of any of the 15 elected officials this office has prosecuted in my 27-year tenure. Most of these officials - 12 Democrats and three Republicans - have accused me of having political motives. What else are they going to say?

For most of my tenure the Democrats held the power in state government. Now Republicans do. Most crimes by elected officials involve the abuse of power; you have to have power before you can abuse it."

I'd be happy with probation, but it would be nice if he had to sit in a holding cell before he was booked.

Why would you bother to hide behind a 15 post per year sock for this post?

Well put.

The indictment is - unfortunately - weak with regard to Delay. No allegations of Delay himself performing an overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy:

http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2005/images/0...indictment.pdf

Pretty solid as to his co-conspirators, however. If one of them rolls over, Delay could be toast.
