That's what you get for using TurboTax. If you just did your return manually, you'd never even have looked at the AMT and assumed it didn't apply to you. And you'd have gotten away with it because nobody at the IRS knows how the fuck it works, either.

That to me is an interesting question--don't the computers that churn through these things know? Like when they bitch me out for adding 2+2 and getting 3?

I've been figuring, why calculate the AMT. Just send in the return, adn get the calculation done for you, and then pay the extra, with some interest.

There was no energy crisis - there was a crisis, all right but he was too timid and mousy to go over to where the oil was and take it! Thank God our President Bush has no such misgivings. When I did my taxes manually (gasp!) some line being over some certain amount told me to go to page whatever in the instructions to see if I owed AMT. I plugged a few numbers in from my itemized deduction to do that, and, happily, never owed it. So I'm not sure how the IRS wouldn't be able to do that reasonably easily -- unless you are mischaracterizing your itemized deductions as things that aren't added back for AMT purposes.

Wanker, you are supposed to charge people who intentionally cheat a premium rate. I am assuming that you will be giving him the GA discount from the premium "deliberate tax cheater" rate.

dumbass sock, if you give $50k to charity next year, I guaranfuckingtee you will have a lower tax rate. Yeah, I know someone else already pointed this out.

I agree with taxwonk, I don't think the IRS is too sophisticated in their review. Also, I am not arguing for lying, just for utlizing the whole of the grey zone. Push the envelope.

I don't put bumper stickers on my car, out of a healthy fear that someday someone will rear-end me because they were busy reading my bumpersticker.

If I felt differently, one car would have a bumpersticker saying "KILL YOUR TELEVISION," and the other would have one saying "TELEVISE YOUR KILL."

I had a "no bumpersticker/no vanity plate" policy out of a healthy fear that I should need to one day make a quick getaway, I didn't need to be identifiable.

I put a Kerry/Edwards sticker on my car, in October. After a suitable period of mourning (three weeks), I took it down.

Now I have an arts organization's sticker on my car.

I may have to improve my driving.

And besides, there is nothing to forgive. I mean, it isn't like he was directing that wonderful law school parable at me... Wait. Do you think he was calling me a social cripple? And here I assumed he was discussing Hank again.

He couldn't have meant me. I mean, it isn't like I sit around and have conversations with a bunch of strangers on the internet all day. I know real people who like me. Pets count, right?

My advice is not to spend too much time on the avatar- if you do something spectacular, then some sim will just copy it and Ty and Rt and them won't stand up against the copyright infringement. w/o ip rights there is no real incentive to create. EO would have G's ass for that but whatever.

I am so going to call you at home and leave a lascivious message on the home voicemail/answering machine. Weak my ass.

My advice to this sock-o-penske was not really serious. I feel it is a moral failing to not pay your taxes in accordance with a reasonable view of the law -- tortured readings are not reasonable. Stretching is not reasonable. I feel as strongly about this as other people do about abortion being murder, though I have not (yet) bombed any consultants' offices (but I am listening carefully to what has been revealed about Eric Rudolph's plans for various gay nightclubs and the Olympics and abortion clinics).

Damn AMT upped my ETR by about 1% this year. I don't use any program to figure the taxes. It would save time and cut down on errors, but I'm stubborn. I checked the AMT because the 1040 says you have to.
