I'm so fucking pissed off, even though I knew this was coming.

Any hint of how the leak happened? I'm assuming a pissed off law clerk hoping to change a vote? Or a clerk hoping to lock in a Justice that might be wavering?

What would Mitch McConnell have gotten done in the same circumstances?

Other than tax cuts for the rich and judges, Mitch's goal is NOT to get things done but to block them. That's a lot easier than getting things done. And the tax cuts he can accomplish through reconciliation.

Schumer actually has a great record of getting judges through, they just haven't included a Supreme Court judge because there hasn't been a vacancy on his watch.

If Schumer can get a choice bill through he will be a hero, but the path is through some combination of Collins, Murkowski, Romney, Sinema and Manchin. If I were Schumer, I'd actually look to the Republicans - on Romney, the Mormon religion specifically permits choice and Romney has already held more positions on choice than the rest of the Republican caucus combined. I think Murkowski can be moved to support, but Collins always finds a way to reluctantly and with great concern and worry endorse fascism. But I suspect both Romney and Murkowski could even be convinced to nuke the filibuster on this one.

Again, hero if he can do it. We will see.

Wahhhh, his job is hard. Click here to donate.

This is really the last two years left in the American Democracy.

People saying "Well, New York is safe, California is safe." When there's a red landslide -- they will ram through federal legislation codifying the end of birth control.

When there's a will there's a way. They strong armed Kennedy into retirement. You can't make someone else's life living hell?

It's pretty important. https://i.imgflip.com/6espcp.jpg

So many Democrats think of success or failure as passing legislation, and so they look to their Senate leader as a leader of the party. Nobody thinks of McConnell as the leader of the GOP. The way Democrats look to Pelosi and Schumer as leaders and argue about what Congress has enacted as the measure of the party's fortunes displays an incredible failure to comprehend politics.

Other than last month, you mean?

Otherwise, agreed.

Oh, yeah, that one.

He did get it through.

Ultimately, democracy and the rule of law are going to require fewer shitheads in the country. That's on us all.

I may be a bit too much of a tax nerd, but the thing I really think the Dems should have done that they haven't is just outright repeal the 2017 Tax Act. Every damn word.

If it's Ginni Thomas vs. the field, I'm taking Ginni Thomas. But who knows?

ETAL: Wait, that's not right. I just think she's the most likely out of a large field of possibilities.

If we're placing random bets, I'd bet an actual justice did it. Alito himself or Clarence Thomas would be my first bets. If it's on the liberal side, Sotomayor is clearly pissed and Breyer has nothing left to work about and has made clear he always wanted an apolitical court, which we aren't going to see for a long, long time.

Justices have a life time appointment and no consequences, and really most of them have no fucks to give. You can hear the arrogance and self aggrandizement in opinions (or draft opinions, more precisely) like this one. Rules don't apply to them.

Most of the clerks are careerists looking to find the right asses to kiss, I think it unlikely any of them do this. If it's not a Justice, my second bet (can I do a box here?) would be clerical staff nearing retirement. I'll bet Alito's secretary absolutely hates him.
