I am always glad to see strong representatives of one side or another say things that show they aren't completely predictable and lockstep. But honestly, it doesn't sound too much different than what the article characterized as a "moderate" stance he took in 1976, when apparently he said he thought it was wrong and ought not to be encouraged by government. Perhaps there was more to the interview than included in the article, but other than the fact of stating it, he seems to be saying he's always felt this way.

And I am oh-so-curious about what of Clinton's treatment of him was bad. Quelle suprise.

Yes, agreed - now, I have always loved Jimmy Carter (though that lust in your heart bit gave me shudders recalling my so. Baptist days) and thought him a good person. But there was something recently he did that just soured me on him -what was it? Anyway, his willingness to speak up is rehabbing him a bit.

Jimmy Carter is my worst nightmare. A foreign policy defeatist pansy who thinks we can just ask the whole world to hold hands and sing Kumbaya. He is an economic moron who thought the best way to deal with economic issues was to tell Americans to stop using their credit cards. And on social issues he is a social conservative. Ban Abortions, Ban offensive music, ban everything.
