America’s neoconservatives (neo-Trotskyites) understand George Orwell’s warning: “Review: The Road to Serfdom by F.A. Hayek The Mirror of the Past by K. Zilliacus Taken together, these two books give grounds for dismay. The first of them is an eloquent defence of laissez-faire capitalism, the other is an even more vehement denunciation of it. They cover to some extent the same ground, they frequently quote the same authorities, and they even start out with the same premise, since each of them assumes that Western civilization depends on the sanctity of the individual. Yet each writer is convinced that the other's policy leads directly to slavery, and the alarming thing is that they may both be right.... Between them these two books sum up our present predicament. Capitalism leads to dole queues, the scramble for markets, and war. Collectivism leads to concentration camps, leader worship, and war. There is no way out of this unless a planned economy can somehow be combined with the freedom of the intellect, which can only happen if the concept of right and wrong is restored to politics. Both of these writers are aware of this, more or less; but since they can show no practicable way of bringing it about the combined effect of their books is a depressing one. Observer, 9 April 1944” http://www.resort.com/~prime8/Orwell/twobooks.html During the Spanish Civil War, George Orwell, a journalist and book author, went to Spain to fight by serving with the United Workers Marxist Party militia. The experience changed his life and writings. Rejecting communism after observing struggles in Spain between Stalinists and Trotskyists, he returned to England as a democratic socialist (in general terms, but suspicious of all forms of government) and wrote books and essays warning of the dangers of totalitarianism, such as: 1984 and Animal Farm. Available for free online, these books are important to anyone along the political spectrum who opposes totalitarianism. Homage to Catalonia is filled with "truth is the first casualty of war" stories veterans of any war will understand. If millions of duped Americans read this book, chickenhawks will not remain in power. Orwell read newspaper stories of battles that he knew personally never happened. Likewise, no newspapers reported some major battles in which he fought. By serving as a soldier, Orwell learned the ability of the media to manipulate dupes. Soldiers fighting for competing totalitarian powers have killed each other based upon the lies their totalitarian leaders and media told them. George Orwell’s 1984 is the story of how one individual tries to learn the truth in a world in which three totalitarian powers have divided much of the world. While George Orwell wrote 1984 in 1949, each passing year reveals how accurate his forecasts have been. The main difference between George Orwell’s forecasts and the totalitarian practices of today is that the totalitarians are still able to use subtler techniques to manipulate the masses in the world. With millions of dupes in a country, there is no need for totalitarians to make extensive use of the more brutal control techniques. While George Orwell knew from his personal experiences of the communist path to slavery, he did not know from personal experience how capitalism could become a path to slavery. Writings about Hayekian Socialism contain some warnings about how totalitarians can take people into slavery from capitalist societies. When you hear or read about Republicans advocating big governments, you should understand that America is in big trouble. Iran Freedom Support Act The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is lobbying for the passage of the Iran Freedom Support Act. This act proposes the appropriation of $10 million to the Department of State to support a transition to “democracy” (totalitarian speak for communism) in Iran. Congress member Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Republican—Florida) introduced H.R. 282 on January 6, 2005. On January 15, 2003, supporters of a Marxist terrorist organization (MEK, MKO, NCRI, PMOI, or Rajavi cult) placed a full-page advertisement in the New York Times thanking six of the 150 members of Congress who signed statements of support for the Marxist terrorist organization (as designated by the United States Department of State since the administration of President Bill Clinton). Ros-Lehtinen, who came to America from Havana, Cuba at age seven, one of the six members of Congress named in the New York Times advertisement, would like American dupes to believe that she is anti-Communist because she is anti-Fidel Castro. In fact, she and many other neoconservatives (neo-Trotskyites) are attempting to impose a Marxist regime in Iran in the name of democracy. In 1959, Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba because of the lies of the New York Times and of many others in the American media and in politics. Castro’s supporters claimed that he was the “George Washington of Cuba”, not a Communist. By 1962, Castro had not only declared that he is a Communist but hoped to establish world Communism after a missile war between America and the Soviet Union. Today, Ros-Lehtinen is attempting to repeat the duping of Americans. Americans who read Anne Singleton’s Saddam's Private Army and the other books about the Rajavi cult listed at Iran-Interlink will not be duped by the neoconservatives (neo-Trotskyites) who have betrayed America. Iran Didban posts detailed information about the Rajavi cult in English, French, Persian (Farsi), and in Arabic. |

Creationism/ID does not. If someone wants to spend a whole semester on creationism/ID, I say Bully for em - so long as it's in the religion classroom, where it belongs. |

Please, hold those of us who have sincere faith to the same degree of rigor that you would apply in your daily life. Ask that we take as much care with our logic and thinking about matters of faith as you do in writing a legal memorandum. I ask respect for faith, but that does not mean that faith should not be thought through, challenged, and tested. |

Hankypoo, your point is hardly revolutionary, and not all that tough to understand -- why do you assume that no one understands it? But I've never said people who have faith are "stupid" -- that's your pastiche view of all liberals speaking to you (I know, sometimes it's hard to distinguish among the voices in your head. This is the one that's not telling you that Hillary helped Saddam hide all the WMDs.) My most negative opinions on this subject are reserved for the people who take faith and dress it up as science -- the "creation science" types, who purport to look at fossils and determine that they date from the Noahnic flood.... That's a little different than saying that anyone who believes in the Bible is an idiot. Not that I expect you to get the difference, but anyway. But, tell you what -- from now on, I'll note that I understand Hank's point about the creationism/evolution debate in every post. Will that make you feel better? However, if you truly believe that evolution is proven, then you are not taking it on faith. Proof and faith are two different things. Unless your point is that you are really the only person on this board smart enough and knowledgeable enough to know. In which case, forgive me, but the laughter pains are killing me. [note to Hank]I know you just want everyone to know that they shouldn't dismiss people who believe in creationism as mere idiots because when they accept Darwinism they are doing it on faith because no one, other than you I guess, is really smart enough to understand the science of evolution.[/note to Hank] |
