'Course, it was pretty hard back then, at that particular school, to find anyone who wasn't using. |
Two Percent.
New poll shows Bush's popularity with black Americans at two percent. It's the lowest rating ever recorded for a President.
Two percent. That's just astonishing. |

Look at the Illinois Senate race. GOP ran Alan Keyes against Obama. Keyes wasn't just a bad candidate, he was crazy. Batshit crazy. IIRC, the Illinois GOP establishment was almost openly embarrassed to run the guy, it was so bad. And even Keyes got something like 25-30% of the vote. Edited to add, actually that's probably an imperfect analogy at best. Better is the previous polling mentioned in WaPo: "A few months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll found Bush's approval rating among blacks at 51 percent. As recently as six months ago, it was at 19 percent." |

Have you heard about her wanting to run, or is this a case of GOP analysts trying to find the anti-Hillary? |

WaPo noted that the overall poll hat 807 people, and about 89 blacks, so there's a definite margin of error problem. They also speculated that Katrina (and maybe his mom's comment, who knows) contributed to the drop, and move from simply not supporting him to being pissed at him. |

I think you're likely right that it's partly a hillary counter strategy--I'll match your woman with a black woman! Sucka! |

I also think the dynamic of a campaign would be, well, weird. "Poor campaigner? No elective experience? Don't worry! We'll surround her with experienced personnel in government, and it'll all be fine!" |

One problem is that Jordan is not big enough or strong enough to exert the same kind of control over those groups in the West Bank -- even if that part went back into Jordan. But maybe Egypt could exert the same kind of influence over a unitary Palestinian state. Which would be ok with us so long as they are good citizens (i.e. "notSyria"). Potential downside -- control of these groups gives Egypt more leverage against us and Israel. S_A_M |
